how we created our new sour watermelon gummies (bts at ovrload)
February 26, 2026
Welcome to a behind-the-scenes look at the relaunch of one of our most requested flavours ever: Sour Watermelon Crealyte® Gummies.
This isn’t just a flavour drop. This is the story of how we rebuilt, retested and relaunched our Sour Watermelon Creatine Gummies the right way.
And why it took a lot longer than anyone expected.
March 2025: The Hardest Moment in ovrload History
In March 2025, we went off sale due to quality issues with our original gummies.
It was the toughest moment we’ve faced as a business. We didn’t know exactly what the next move would be, but we knew one thing:
We were going to relaunch, recover, and go again.
But this time with:
-
Proper testing protocols
-
Trusted European manufacturing partners
-
No shortcuts
-
No compromises
Our goal was clear:
Reclaim our place as the most trusted and industry-leading creatine gummy brand in the UK.
Crealyte® Gummy 2.0: A Complete Reset
To make sure we got it right, we partnered with a factory in France and developed Crealyte® Gummy 2.0, and we didn’t just tweak the old formula, we rebuilt it.
What Changed From Gummy 1.0 to 2.0?
The original 1.0 flavours were:
-
🫐 Blue Raspberry – The OG. The flavour people associated with Ovrload.
-
🍉 Sour Watermelon – The nostalgic favourite.
-
🍒 Cherry Cola – New, but instantly loved.
When we relaunched, we made the bold decision and introduced completely different flavours:
-
🍏 Sour Green Apple – The surprise favourite of relaunch customers
-
🍑 Peach Iced Tea – Liked by some (but being transparent, the flavour slightly missed the mark)
Why the change? Because this wasn’t a refresh, it was a reset.
The Texture Problem (And Why It Mattered)
One of the biggest pieces of feedback on Gummy 1.0 was texture. Because the original product was under-dosed, the gummies were sweeter and more sweet-like. With Crealyte® 2.0, the formula changed, and that meant the texture changed.
We knew if we were going to bring back Sour Watermelon, it had to:
-
Match the nostalgic flavour people loved
-
Deliver the correct clinical dose of creatine
-
Maintain a texture that still felt enjoyable
Balancing performance and taste in a creatine gummy is harder than you think.
Why Did It Take So Long?
Originally, we planned to launch a new flavour in late 2025, but that didn’t happen, then we targeted November 2025, which also didn’t happen.
We aimed for January 2026, still delayed.
Manufacturing was pencilled in for that strange limbo week between Christmas and New Year, you know, when no one knows what day it is, in hindsight, that was a sign. Production kept getting pushed back week after week and We finally commenced manufacturing at the start of February 2026.
So what caused the delays?
Simple.
We refused to launch it until it was right.
The Taste Testing: Hundreds of Samples
We are not exaggerating when we say we taste-tested hundreds of samples, hundreds. If you’ve never taste-tested that many creatine gummies in a day, let us tell you, It’s not glamorous.
Most early samples were genuinely awful:
Too sweet.
Too artificial.
Not sour enough.
Wrong texture.
Aftertaste.
For three straight months, we refined:
-
Sweetness levels
-
Sour intensity
-
Watermelon authenticity
-
Texture density
-
Mouthfeel
-
Stability
Every batch was tested rigorously.
The Goal: Better Than 1.0
The brief was simple:
If we re-release Sour Watermelon, it must be as good as, or better than Gummy 1.0.
No nostalgia bait, no half-measures, just genuinely better. When we finally approved the final version, we knew. This was it.
The Relaunch: Vintage, Yet Brand New
The tagline I wanted to use?
“Vintage, yet brand new.”
(It was vetoed internally. I’m still standing by it.)
Because that’s exactly what this is.
-
The nostalgic sour watermelon hit you remember
-
Built on a completely rebuilt, properly dosed, tested formula
-
Manufactured with trusted European partners
-
Put through far stricter quality controls
We even celebrated the relaunch on London buses. A small “we’re back” moment.
And yes, the team celebrated properly once it went live.
